03/07 : A general update
Various things, including the website going down, have meant that I was not able to post anything over the last week, ignor the post below, unless you are really interested on what happened to the website - all you need to know is that the server company was hacked, all websites on it got affected and that everything is gradually getting back to normal.
So this is the first chance I've had to say thanks to Hal for 'organising' (used loosely) the steam train outing he didn't miss the train, although almost all of us got lost in Cheltenham! There were three rings. The first two towers weren't so nice but the last one was a bit of a treat!
We managed to get back with plenty of time to spare to the Advanced practice which was held at Haddenham this month.
During Hal's outing, the last touch at the Last Tower was specially dedicated for Armed Forces day: A touch of Grandsire Triples.

01/07 : Back! well, just about...
On the up side, at least the hackers were polite and intelligent. One by the name/alias of Christian left a fantastic calling card, it read:
"just a small demonstration of what can be done with a little ingenuity"
This made me smile, how right he/she is(!) - and as Di said to me, "he'd make a fantastic ringer!"
It's pleasing that there are people passionate about things and these hackers were a great example of true 'ingenuity' and patience... it certainly showed me how little I know about computing! I hope they see this and realise that unlike a bank, we hold no real challenge... however, maybe if they looked at the downloads for things like conducting and method ringing, that they might find an interesting field requiring just the skills that they have in abundance. The perfect balance between an old art and a modern science.
Cheers,
Hal
ps. any hackers interested in ringing, please contact me at mouthisi@yahoo.com for your nearest tower (UK, America, Australia or New Zealand) and advice on ringing - I have plenty of time to explain our hobby and no time after work to rebuild a site and communicate with a hosting company to get the sites back up and running, so please don't put me through the hours of rebuilding a site again!
Cheers all, hope you enjoy our hobby
24/06 : Repatriation
Best wishes
John
Please Ring Your Bells and Pass it on !!
Here at St Mary's Church in Princes Risborough, we started today to ring our large church bell for 15 minutes at 2pm when some of our boys were being "Repatriated" through Wootton Bassett.
As the Royal British Legion's National President, Lt Gen Sir John Kiszely, said of the regular turn-out in Wootton Bassett: "No one organised it, no one requested it. It happened because it was the right thing to do, and our members stood ready to give these fallen heroes the honour they so richly deserve."
We are hoping others may also like to show respect by ringing their church bells, so if you could forward this to other churches, that would help. There is usually a clear notice about the next Repatriation at the top of the Wootton Bassett Town Council's homepage at:

23/06 : First's quarter peal
The quarter peal started off as a 120, and grew to be 10 extents and a 60. We have been attempting 'long' touches at Great Horwood for a little while now when there are only six of us that turn up - we ring until someone else comes, it just happened that this time, no one else came and we managed to get the whole way through, here's the details:
The Great Horwood Society of Change Ringers
Great Horwood, Bucks
St James
Tuesday, 22 June 2010 (16 cwt)
1260 Plain Bob Doubles
1 Mandy Cliffe
2 David Moore
3 Paul Bagni
4 Richard Samways
5 Ryan Noble (C)
6 James Samways
Congratulations to the Mandy on her first quarter and to Paul on his first 'inside' Rung on practice night as there were only 6!
Just another little thing, Paul, please remember the 3/4 DOWN!!

20/06 : Cuddington Outing - 2010
We also went to Wigginton and got locked out - so no ringing there!!
A total of around 15 miles was cycled, and for some it was slightly more to get back to their cars!!
We finished off the day with a barbecue and drinks back at Cuddington, where some people got soaked!
Thanks are due to Caroline who organised a excellent day out.
20/06 : Address working again.

17/06 : An update on Branch Communications...
What do you need to do?
Nothing really, other than ensure that we have the correct email contact for your tower, this will all be sorted by some of the services the the ODG offer and will hopefully go through an easy set up stage, should you have any worries or concerns, you should first consult the Guild FAQ page: http://odg.org.uk/faq.php before contacting one of the branch officers.

14/06 : Branch 6-bell Striking Competition at Whitchurch
The sun shone and our two amiable judges, Alan Bentley from Aston Clinton and Simon Lockwood from Leighton Buzzard, settled themselves comfortably to await events! The draw was held and first up were Aylesbury. They were followed by Winslow - who had to dash back to ring for a second wedding afterwards, then came Wing, and then the 'scratch' teams, the last being made up of ringers from a mixture of six different towers!
Throughout the proceedings teas were served by the Whitchurch ringers (thank you) who then joined in the open ringing held while the judges deliberated. Then the results!
Simon gave the comments, which were fair but kind and encouraging. Alan then provided the scores which were:
Linslade first
Wing second
Team 6 third -Ed I'd like to name this the Old Timers Scratch Team
Young Ringers fourth
Aylesbury fifth
Winslow sixth
Wing will therefore go on to represent the Branch at the Guild competition, so good luck to them, and congratulations too.
It was also great to see the young ringers do so well when some had never met before and certainly had never rung together.
After this we all adjourned to the Swan pub for the evening for a lovely bar-b-que which had been specially laid on for us; social time with lots of chat, games for some and origami practice too! A very enjoyable end to a most satisfying afternoon.
Very many thanks to our judges for giving up their time, and using their skills for us. I do hope you both managed to enjoy the occasion too!
Well done, and thank you, too to all who entered and made the competition - without you we would not have had the 'good' afternoon that we did.
See you next year!
Heather

12/06 : WARNING - STRIKING COMPETITION SABOTEUR ON THE LOOS£!
An unnamed source has reported to bellringing.biz that last night at Wing, someone who makes irregular visits turned up. To save even more embarrassment I have left people unnamed, but I think you can probably guess who I'm on about.
FAQ?
What do I do if I see this beast?
Stay calm and don't worry too much - in person he's normally quite friendly and of little danger to us
What do I do when calling our test piece?
You need to ensure that you are calling as loud as you can so that the saboteur remains unheard to the rest of your band.
What if I can't call louder?
You may just have to give in and ask for special considerations!!
I feel offended and hurt by the saboteur -
If you feel as strongly, I'd like to suggest this suitable anonymous hot-helpline, although the people on the phones may recognise your voice - 07921337816
AGAIN, this is one of the branch jokes, I'm sure the saboteur really is not at loose - so there is no one to blame when you lose.
Hal, please continue to do such funny things, but not as often.
AND FINALLY
Good luck to all who are entering today, please note though, any team that I ring for is bound to do infinitely better than yours!!
Ryan
